Erice is a small town, right next to Trapani in the west part of Sicily. It’s small, but it is one of the most amazing places you shouldn’t miss!

How to get to Erice and enjoy it in 1 day?

I was traveling in west part of Sicily before my Italian course started. I planned to go to Erice with the cableway as this is the best way to have an incredible view. Unfortunately, Thursday was windy and foggy and the cableway to Erice and back was closed.

What should I do NOW?

I had one full day until I went to Palermo and Trapani I saw day before, so I wanted to see Erice in any case.

When I looked at the map I knew that I can not walk more than 8,5 km. In addition, I was 2 months after a surgery of my right knee. Secondly, walking more than 15 km (to climb Erice and back to Trapani) and discovering the town Erice would definitely kill most of the people.

Fortunately, an option how to get to Erice in Sicily came up – to take a taxi. They knew that people would want to got there, that’s why they were waiting around the cable way.

I needed at least 3 more people to go with me. In that case one fare would cost 5 euro, when we compare it with the cableway, it was just 1 euro more.

Suddenly, 6 Slovaks arrived, when I recognized the language I told them about the option, we agreed and we went up. During the way we saw some tourists walking up, but I really do not recommend this option. It is not 8,5 km as my map said, but 15 km one way. Additionally, it is really difficult way.

Finally we got there!
